Mama's Family

I must be super lonely cuz I watched an entire episode of "Mama's Family" last night. It is on some sort of family/religious channel like Pax. I hated this show when it was on in the 80's. But last night, I was tickled by Mama's antics. She ran for Mayor of Raytown and won. Whoa, did hilarity ensue at the City Council meetings.

I can't believe we bought Vicki Lawrence as an old woman. She looks like a clown. But I could not take my eyes off of her. She plays Mama to the hilt.

For fun, below is the theme song for Mama's Family. It is so grody (but in the good way):

point of order - that link goes to the other Bubba. not the one in the pic in Patrick's post.

remember this show did a bit of a revamp?

Rue left the show and they brought on Beverly Archer as Iola.

Thank you imbd - I didn't want to pretend I had memorized all that.

I always loved Naomi with her off-the-shoulder dresses.

Delish.

I saw that episode last night too. Mama got elected as mayor. We both suck. The worst part is that I actually kind of wanted to know what happened in the next episode since it was supposed to be a cliffhanger.

I loved Mama's Family, but I can't believe it was a on a family/religious channel. God bless Carol Burnett and Vicki Laurence.

gross. but i'm just bitter because i happen to share the same name (first and last) with that wacky, tap-dancing "actor" who starred in such classic films as "The Cat from Outer Space." Oh, and he got to kenberry.com faster - that bastard.

I am not gonna lie (to quote J. Michael Haas), I sometimes watch this in the morning if I get annoyed at CNN, the best part, Saved By The Bell comes on right after.

I love Mama's Family, my favorite episode is when they appear on Family Feud. The earlier episodes, which aired on NBC, are much better than the syndicated ones.

Oh, and Matt, she serves three terms as Mayor, and in the series finale she's brough up on corruption charges and sentenced to life in prison. Kind of a dark ending to an easy breezy show.

OK, is anybody else a little bothered by the "come hither" look Mama is a'showin' in the promo photo? Who knew she was such a slut? Would she even know what to do with that geriatric box?

If you look at the credits you can see that the original costume designer was Bob Macke.

No Shit.

Does anyone remember Vicki hosting the daytime version of "Win, Lose or Draw" in the late 80s?

Her career was really riding high!
