Funny or offensive...YOU DECIDE!

I came across this video after enjoying an episode of Planet Unicorn on the YouBoobs. I have to admit, I really can't decide if I'm offended or not. I thought it was funny, but at the same time I thought "why shouldn't someone be able to talk about being gay in public"? So scince i can't decide, YOU must decide for me.

I can't determine if his pet peeve is with gay people or if his problem is with loud & annoying people.

But everyone has their pet peeves. Mine is with waiters with bad teeth who won't shut up.

I think someone else was preaching to the cheap seats. While I am gay and I do agree with SOME of the things he said, he is still no better than the guy he was talking about.

Funny. A well done and funny video. I thought it was pretty clear that he was annoyed with the guy's in your face behavior, not his gayness per se, but rather his belief that everybody should care about his gayness. That behavior is extremely annoying. I'm gay, I found it funny. But maybe I'm just not as sensitive as many others...

My response (which was way hard to keep under 500 characters):

You had every right to be pissed off; I would have been too. However, the sexuality of the man who was being rude is irrelevant to his actions. By mentioning his sexuality you further polarize an already polarized socio-poltical climate regarding homosexuality.

Do I understand your anger? Yes. Do I understand your need to mention his sexuality in the first place? No. You must realize the consequence of your actions. Dichotomizing homosexuality from heterosexuality doesn't help anyone.

I am a gay man, a former server and I think I waited on the same Nelly Queen! If you have never waited tables I think you wouldn't understand what this guy/asshole probably went through. I'm all for self expression but there is a fine line. I mean would you like to pay your hard earned money for a nice meal and have some loud asshole who just left the baseball dugout talking about the pussy he sucked on last night, AND how her lasagna lips (See Boomtacular post: Saturday, August 04, 2007 LOOSE LIVIN'!) were so huge that he could pull them over he ears, AND he didn't wash his face because he liked the way his beard smells!!! You get my point. I guess what I would like to know is if this restaurant was a predominately gay or straight environment? If Gran & Gran pappy stumbled into the corner of Gay and Wad for some ribs and over heard some gay man being himself that is their own fault. But if this was Applebees well come on ladies...am I right? What self respecting gay man would eat at appleshmees anyway! A wwhat wwhat!
I say a little kindness and consideration for others goes a long way and that will help more people except us for who we are.

My big thing about it is simple. Tell the manager. If you are that old couple having ribs and some queen starts screaming, tell the manager! If you are a waiter and some queen is affecting your tips, tell the manager. That is why they live at these restaurants: to solve these problems by giving people food. So that is why I don't think that this guy is just pissed. He could have told someone and saved his tips. If he had, I bet those old people would have left him an extra quarter.

I think everyone understands his anger, Mark. What people question is why boh3m3, the maker of the video felt he needed to include that the man was gay, which has nothing to do with his rudeness. That polarizes the gay (should-be-non) issue, and ultimately causes us gays to not have equal marriage rights, equal treatment in work environments, etc.

I hear what your stepping in Emerson, I do agree with you, the guy is a asshole for the way he described the situation. And I think he was wrong for not handling the situation correctly, by getting a manager, but he did have a valid point.

Anyone screaming he loves nuts on his chin in a mixed restaurant is just tacky, and disrespectful, come on.

If we ever want gay issues to be a non-issue, we as gay men we need to set a good example.

Well, I sure sparked quite a debate, di'in't I? Thank you for all of your responses and insight.

After watching it again, I do not feel he hates the gays. And I don't think it was necessary to edit out the details of this man being gay and what he said. After all, it's what happened, right ladies? It was just the flavor of the story.

Having been a waiter at Roscoe's many years ago (back when they had an INDOOR café...yeah, I'm old) I have had my share of over-the-top gayosity. Even in that environment I would feel the "loud gay man" would have pissed me off.

Thanks again for your insight, especially Emo and Mark. Now I'm off to find some balls to bounce on my chin...

I gotta go with Emo and Mark on this. I hear where this guy's coming from, and I can relate it to at least a few other situations where people have walked into public "vanilla" situations and decided to have loud and inappropriate conversations. I once went to an IHOP with this guy who was staying with me at a friend's house and, sitting directly next to a family with a two-year-old, he starts talking in his "outdoor voice" about every imaginable S&M scene he's had, and the years he's been in the scene. NEXT TO A TWO-YEAR-OLD. AT AN IHOP.

Yeah, didn't see that dude again.

Sure, but don't you think that it's irresponsible of him as a supposed supporter of gay rights to not post a video that dichotomizes homosexuals from heterosexuals? His video has 93,000 views, and the comments are filled with gay people yelling about how homophobic he is and straight people yelling about how they hate faggots. It's silly, it's widening the gap, and the rude man's sexuality was irrelivant to the story. Apparently this boh3m3 guy is really popular on youtube, I don't pay much attention to video-casters, but if he knows anything about how people react to things on the internet he should have known that people would make this into a battleground. Having said that, in my ideal world I wouldn't have any problems with this video, because people would realize it has nothing to do with hetero or homo-sexuality, it's solely about rude people coming into PG situations and being vulgar.

Chardonnay and Ribs at a Wild Safari place? Was Brian Fellowes the entertainment for the night?

This guy has a point, but he went on too long about it. He needs to work on his eyebrows.
