Volta-- What do we think?

Medulla and Volta were recorded back to back, and it really feels like they are brother and sister. Medulla, for its reputation for being so crazy and getting middle 'Merica out of their comfort zone, had some of the most pop cuts of Bjork's entire career. But, it turns out, Volta has no catchy hooks, no seductive grooves. The problem was with our expectations. With Timbaland pooping out beats and by the record label's top brass was saying how it was her most commercial album yet, we expected something different.

So what do you guys think?

I really enjoy the album myself. Declare Independence is one of my favorite tracks. I'd write more but i'm insanely tired at the moment.

I love the album as well. As always, there is at least one song on it that grates my nerves, but I really enjoyed most of it. My favorites are Earth Intruders, Wanderlust, Innocence, I see who you are and Vertebra. I don't feel like her music needs to really outdo anyone on the record sales, she has always been in her own class and I appreciate her for that!

A review I read blamed Volta's ALLEGED failure on her many collaborators, but Medulla had many as well. I feel like you can't compare any album and really be satisfied. Post isn't Homogenic isn't Vespertine. I'm going to buy the album anyway, I'll teach myself to like it if I have to.

I hear where you're coming from Noah, Volta hasn't lived up to the hype. But if you listen to it without thinking of the pre-release media spin, I reckon' it's a great album. I'm finding it hard to accept that she's never going to make another Post or Homogenic, but I still love Bjork.

I love it. It's challenging, but worthwhile. Perhaps albums should just be catchy or easy to get, but I like to have to think about it a little...

Volta has actually made me appreciate Medulla a lot more. Perhaps seeing some of the Medulla tracks live with her band helped flesh them out for me too. Medulla sounds like downright Pop compared to most of Volta. But expectations were laso crazy..not just from the reviews, but when my brain combined git ur freak on timbaland with alarm call bjork I got an erection..but thats not what they delivered. However, Innocence does make plates fall off my neighbors walls....which is a very very good thing
