Here comes a bikini whale!

So I heard that the B-52's are making a new album and I had this wild and immediate desire to download a bunch of their songs. I'm not a huge fan but I like their early stuff like Private Idaho and Rock Lobster. And some songs from mid-career like Wig and Summer of Love. Heck, I like Channel Z, Tell It Like It T-I-S and Debbie. OK, I'm a fan. I just haven't listened to them in ages and it's a blast to rediscover a band. Has anyone else delved into their collection and rediscovered a long lost favorite? I swear though, if I hear one more Straight Guy and Becky warble their way through a Love Shack karaoke, I will murder them.

One year about 8 or so years ago I was hanging out in front of SF City Hall with all the avant tards in high high costumage, it was Gay Pride towards the end of the day and there was a massive gathering, the B-52's came on and all of a sudden this huge circle formed, everyone was just doing their own thing, all this seudo tribal-ey interpretive dancing to the song Rock Lobster, it was one of those "moments" I will never forget, so perfect to be in it and so wonderful to remember.

Every 4 or 5 years I go through a massive B-52's obsession. I adore them. Yeah yeah yeah they're the gayest thing going. Whatever. They're talented and amazing.

The B-52's are one of those clearly GAY groups or things that mainstream STRAIGHT America loved and didn't really grasp their gayness. And might be confused later when you explained how GAY these groups/things were.

Other examples include:
-The Village People in the 70's. Honk. Tweet.
-Almost any 80's British Ballad Group with the real sensitive lead singer.
-The Joel Schumacher "Batman" films in the 90's. Enough of the codpiece shots, Joel.
-And for the 2000's - Ghost-Face Killer. I mean, Killa.

"Queen of Las Vegas." The original version produced by David Byrne of Talking Heads fame. Probably their BEST song. Found on their two-disc Best Of set (titled "Nude on the Moon"). Shameless (butt)plug. Check it out y'allz.
